HEALING ENVIRONMENTS is an award-winning architecture and interior design firm specializing in design, project management, space planning, and interior finish & furniture selections for both residential and commercial projects.  Healing Environments was awarded first place for the American Society of Interior Designers IL Chapter 2023 Design Excellence Awards for Wild Card Residential Space, American Society of Interior Designers IL Chapter 2016 Design Excellence Awards for Contract Project by a Small Firm, American Society of Interior Designers IL Chapter 2014 Design Excellence Awards for Residential Project by a Small Firm. Healing Environments was awarded the Trends Top 50 American Bathroom for 2014. Healing Environments was also featured in "Bathroom Trends" magazine, "Modern Luxury Interiors Chicago" magazine, "Design Bureau" magazine, and many other publications. Susan El-Naggar Principal, Co-Owner
Susan El-Naggar ASID, NCIDQ, RID, WELL AP, LEED Green Associate, has over 20 years of experience in residential and commercial interior design. She received her education at The International Academy of Design and Technology in Chicago, and completed additional studies in Portugal, Egypt, Israel, and Montreal. She has worked on projects throughout the United States. She is a NCIDQ Certified Interior Designer and a registered Interior Designer in Indiana and Illinois. Susan is also a Certified Health Coach, a graduate from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York, NY. She has combined her passion for health, wellness, and nutrition with interior design by becoming a WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP). The WELL Building Standard marries best practices in design and construction with evidence-based health and wellness interventions, making buildings healthier for all. As a WELL AP and LEED Green Associate interior designer, Susan implements strategies, programs, and technologies that encourage a healthy, more active lifestyle for clients and that reduce their exposure to harmful chemicals and pollutants. She is an active Professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) IL Chapter. She served as a Chairperson for the Design for Wellness peer group, President-Elect in 2019-2020, and President in 2020-2021. Susan is an Advisor on the ASID National Chapter Support Team FY2023-FY2024. She served as a CIDQ Ambassador for many years, and also sat as a juror for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam. She was presented with a "Distinguished Service" award by ASID IL Chapter, and a "Certificate of Appreciation" award by NCIDQ in recognition of outstanding service. Susan was previously a Designer-On-Call at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, and has also been a judge for many events: ASID Wisconsin, Florida, and California Design Excellence Awards, ASID Indianapolis Indiana Showhouse, and the International Casual Furnishings Association (ICFA) Design Excellence Awards, and many others. Susan has been a speaker and consultant throughout Northwest Indiana and the Chicagoland area. She is a member of the Illinois Green Alliance.

 

Tarik El-Naggar Principal, Co-Owner
Tarik El-Naggar AIA has over 30 years of experience in residential and commercial architecture.  He received  his education from Ball State University, College of Architecture and Planning.  Tarik has owned two architecture and urban design firms, and was the president of his own development company.  He has been a respected lecturer on town planning, and an architectural and planning consultant to many communities in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.  He has been a team member on several nationally recognized developments including:  Coffee Creek Center in Indiana, The Town of Kentland in Maryland, Windsor Village in Florida, Mashpee Commons in Maine, and Forest Beach in Michigan.  Tarik has developed architectural codes and architectural review boards for several communities and developments in the Midwest.  He established a Main Street organization and sat as the President for over ten years.  In addition, Tarik has been the President and a Board Member for multiple civic organizations including:  Crown Point Chamber of Commerce, the Southlake County YMCA, the Northern Indiana Arts Association, and the Leadership Northwest Indiana.  His many awards include the Crown Point Community Service Award, the National Association Distinguished Leadership Award, a Main Street Dedication Award, and the Leadership Northwest Indiana Outstanding Presenter and Leader Award.  Tarik was an Adjunct Professor at Andrews University, Division of Architecture in Berrien Springs, Michigan. He taught several classes including the fifth year Topic Studio and the third year Place-Making Studio. He has been recognized as an outstanding lecturer, motivator and expositor of the design process, and the need for sustainable and a rational context in architecture.  Tarik is a current member of the American Institute of Architects.
